This Week on Trail Tip Thursday…
Today I bring a review of an article I read a month or so back, and resonated with me on how I approach some of my training days. ‘Outside‘ magazine (*which you can read here*) spoke with ultrarunner Rickey Gates (who took on the conquest of a 4,000 mile journey) was reflecting on his Mount Marathon Race in Seward, Alaska when he said;
“There’s a great fascination with ultras being harder than other races,” Gates said, “but the mile is every bit as difficult as 100 miles if you apply yourself to it.”
Only a mile? Even if you put 100% effort in, wouldn’t a marathon be tougher since it is a longer sub-maximal effort? But running distance for the sake of running distance might not be all that athletically impressive. Or is it? I won’t do this article justice if I sum it up, so please follow to read more!
I just watched the video on this majestic and intense 5k race known as Mount Marathon. Here is a video of the event from Salomon Running TV.
